Four Cardinals and a Squirrel

This is one of my largest pieces, entitled Four Cardinals and a Squirrel. The squirrel is intentionally hidden, can you find him? :) Every so often my little garden attracts a group of cardinals who all sit so beautifully on the barren winter branches of my trees. And of course my squirrel friends are mischievously crawling about!

This piece is comprised of acrylic paint and is on a canvas about the size of an ironing board. It's currently hanging in the Spirited Goat Coffee House @ 118 Dayton St Yellow Springs, OH. Hand of Fatmah

Also known as Hand of Fatima or Hand of Hasma, this has long been a favorite symbol of mine. Just love how it looks and feels so I had to paint it. I hoped this piece would glow and offer a sense of protection.

Finally its March and my new, colorful acrylic collection is hanging in The Spirited Goat Coffee House. Such a vibrant coffee house located at 118 Dayton St in Yellow Spring, OH 45387. So if you're from the Dayton area or happen to be passing through The Village make sure to stop by.

Glen Helen Nature Preserve

It's been a little while since I've taken my camera out. I've been completely absorbed in paintings lately so my photography had taken the back seat for awhile. However, it was just such a beautiful warm-weathered, sunny winter day in Ohio yesterday that I took a break from my new painting collection and went for a hike in the nature preserve. This is one of many lovely photos to have come of this excursion! I look forward to taking many more photos as the weather changes this year. I must say Ohio sure does have interesting weather. Far too interesting not to capture with a camera lens :)

Please stay tuned, I'm working away on an entirely bright, new collection of acrylics on canvases ranging from very small to pretty darn big! They will be hanging in the Spirited Goat Cafe in Yellow Springs for the entire month of March. I'm very excited about it and hope you are too. Penguins R Cool

Doing well in the Sunrise Cafe so far, having sold 15 some pieces. That said, there was some room to fill. Today, among other pieces, I added this new painting to the collection. It's a watercolor and ink trio of hearts, each featuring a lovely little penguin :) It's entitled Penguins R Cool.

And just as a heads up, the Sunrise Cafe will be closed Feb 1-9th for a short winter break. So hurry in before or after before this piece vanishes (hopefully)! :D

I went to the Sunrise Cafe for lunch the other day and was happy to find that I had sold a few more pieces. I filled the empty spaces in the cafe today with 5 new paintings of mixed media, including this silly little painting entitled Peas, Love, and Hap'pea'ness! It might be a vegetarian thing ;)

The Heart is Life

The Heart is Life! This is my latest piece which will be hung in the Mysteries of the Heart show at Village Artisans. It's comprised of acrylic paint on a 16x20 canvas.

It will be hung with the work of other local artists January 15, 2012 through February 24, 2012. A reception will take place February 10, 2012 from 7:00-9:00 PM in The Village Artisans at 100 Corry St. Yellow Springs, OH 45387 (937 767-1209).

I drew this piece with charcoal pastels many years ago, but recently touched it up. I felt it deserved more than being shoved into a back closet somewhere. Like my Madonna and Child painting, it has a Byzantine-era quality to it that I love. I think there will be more pieces like this one in the future!

Winter Earth

I sold a photograph, Snowy Night, that was hanging in the Sunrise Cafe, so I replaced it with this piece. Winter Earth, an altered digital photo printed on large canvas is now hanging in Sunrise. It was taken at my Uncle's sour apple orchard in Civril, Turkey.

P.S. I also sold my Madonna & Child (pictured in the blog below)! I took it out of the cafe...But no fear, I replaced it with a print of itself in a floating frame :)

I call it Once Upon an Oregon Night since its reminiscent of my nights in Oregon. Within it you may find shapes/images of mushrooms, a snail, and a starry night. This is my first little piece to be completed in my extended stay in Florida :)

Inspired by the summer sky, beach breeze, and beautiful birds, I hoped to capture a sense of aspirations taking flight.

More to come soon, I'm going to be focusing my attention on making a bright watercolor piece for the 2012 Jacksonville Jazz festival poster competition!!

Inspired by stained glass, this is my latest piece. My intent was to embody life forces that are radiating but sometimes unseen (waves in heat or travelling sounds, for example). The flower is generating energy around it that flows like waves in water.

Lotus in the Rain, Now on Display!!

My last art piece before leaving Ohio and venturing to Oregon was this panel, pictured left, entitled Lotus in the Rain. It's been a couple months, but now the panel is finally on display on the side of the Village Artisans building on Dayton St in Yellow Springs, OH. Other local artists created panels which are also on display. If you get a chance to stop in Yellow Springs, don't miss this magnificent outdoor exhibit :D

This is a picture I took some time ago at the Horace Mann monument in Yellow Springs, OH. I was captivated by the monument because it stands in a large meadow alone. Coming across such rich history in the middle of nature reminded me of an enchanting storybook. The smaller of two monuments is pictured here. I call it Storybook Chris.

Timeless Portrait

This scratchpaper design is one of my personal favorites. Its flatness reminds me of ancient Egyptian portraits, but its has a futuristic feel to it too. Timeless Portrait seemed to be the perfect name for it.

It was hanging in the The Little Art Theatre until last Sunday. That show has now ended :( but onto the next opportunity. In the meanwhile, working on a large wood panel piece that will be hanging into downtown Yellow Springs indefinitely. More details on that to come.

My latest piece of work, although unfinished, is pictured here. When I was painting it I was thinking of baby animals and their mothers, everyone's connection to the natural world, and existence. I haven't decided which orientation I like best yet and might alter the image compositionally. Looking back and analyzing it, I feel like I'm watching a shape-shifting cloud in the sky. I keep seeing different images every time I look at it...

Show at the Little Art Theatre

Yesterday I hung my artwork in the lobby of the Little Art Theatre in Yellow Springs, OH. I went back later to watch Inception, which is now playing at the theatre for at least another week (and its a totally weird movie I recommend).

Night flower, pictured to the far left, is one of my favorite paintings of the show. I also have a drawing featured in the lobby called Timeless Portrait, which is a scratchpaper, abstract figurative piece. I never got around to taking pics of it before getting it framed, but its my personal favorite of my entire collection, not just the show.

Didn't get around to taking pics of the lobby on opening night of my art show, but posted one I found on the YS Arts Blog. And for fun I posted my portrait, which I used in the show for my artist statement :D

Also feel the need to mention that the Little Art Theatre has delicious lemon bars and tangerine tea at the concession stand. Popcorn smells lovely and nothing is overpriced. Its a down to earth movie theatre <3

Preparing for the Cirque Carnival

The Cirque Carnival is coming up next Friday so I've been busy preparing everything. Pictured here is a tote bag I'll be selling. I had my Ghost Parrot painting printed on the canvas bag and then added the rest by hand. In sum, it's an original work of art that you can carry with you wherever you please :D

Other items to expect at the event will be Claire B greeting cards, mouse pads, framed and unframed photographic prints, buttons, change purses, and other random, artsy items. Look forward to seeing you there!!

It's official- come to the Winds Cafe in the Village of Yellow Springs, OH to see my art exhibit May 4th - June 5th! I'll be showing 28+ pieces of mostly paintings, but including some photography.

The Winds Cafe is located about 30 mins from Dayton, 45 mins from Columbus and 1 hour from Cincinnati. I went today for a wonderful brunch w/ my Moms and it was quite busy as the Village is really bustling this time of year. Delicious food and a serious amount of delicious wine.

Elephant

The titles of the paintings from top to bottom: Aura, Sunflower, and Daydreaming Elephant. I'm particularly happy with the way the Daydreaming Elephant turned out. I just finished it last night- wasn't so certain about it until I looked at it again this afternoon. This is the second elephant painting of my show and I'm pretty sure there will be more in the near future since I find them so mysterious and interesting.

It's a whimsical restaurant in Yellow Springs with gourmet food...more to come on this event.
